If I’ve Learned One Thing, It Is This…

When my first child was born, her father travelled a lot for work.

She and I would spend the week, just the two of us, managing through our day.

24 hours a day, 5 days a week, for about 8 months if I recall correctly, it was she and I.

I was a young first-time mom in a neighbourhood where I didn’t know anyone.

There were days when I CRAVED contact with other humans.

I would drive to the mall and push my wee babe around in the stroller just for the opportunity to hear adult conversation. (Btw, I’m not a shopper and I don’t enjoy malls.)

I didn’t care if I spoke to anyone. But I needed to hear conversation and be a part of live interaction.

Starting my own business, I learned the same lesson.

If you run a businesses from your home, there are many perks to be had – you can sleep in later, work in your sweat pants, and don’t have to gussy yourself up just to have a cup of tea. I LOVE this part!

The downside can be that you may not have a lot of daily interactions with people. This can slow you down and deflate your creativity.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Connection fuels my creative energy and keeps me moving forward.

Whether online, on a call or in person, having someone to talk through my ideas or problems helps me move forward much faster than trying to figure things out on my own.

I’ve been in various online business-related peer groups. Some have the opportunity for daily interaction while some offer a weekly or monthly call, all with the opportunity for members to give constructive feedback and suggestions.

I’ve forged some really special and lasting bonds with other entrepreneurs this way.

We’ve helped each other out in many ways, from reading sales copy, to being there for one another through tough personal times, to celebrating successes big and small.

Let’s face it – owning your own business is FREAKIN’ H-A-R-D!

I’m a solo-preneur but I KNOW without a doubt that I can’t do it all alone.

I need people in my life who can pick me up when I fall, will offer support and encouragement as needed, nudge me forward when it feels safer to stand still, are there to bounce ideas off of, and cheer me on as I jump the next hurdle.

Each and every one of these connections adds to my life and my work.

Because of my connections, I have grown a stronger business, faster.

That’s what I offer you…
